“Holler Syndrome”

Roadside Picnics an American Tradition
Oh the stories this holler can tell. Starkeytown is not all that different than the hollers you hear about as Dolly Parton tells her many stories of her family and life in the Smoky Mountains. We believe them all and more as we know the many secrets that are held in the nature that surrounds us.
Many know that Dolly Parton got a fair portion of her start to fame with Cas Walker who also carried a fair amount of fame himself! Prior to Dolly’s entrance to the stage, Cas Walker was known in East Tennessee through his many businesses, becoming a radio and TV personality, a Knoxville city council member and mayor of the city. Walker was known for his polital views and published a newsletter called “The Watchdog” that championed the small farmer while questioning authorities through his newletters. He created a talent show that was a promotional project for his grocery store chain throughout the East Tennessee area and through that talent show Dolly Parton’s career was born. The show featured the Everly Brothers regularly.
So how do the Starkeytown Sisters connect to Cas Walker, Dolly Parton and Cas Walker’s talent show on the radio?
